Point features are a type of map feature extracted from Mapillary image detections. A variety of objects related to vehicular and pedestrian experiences are supported as Mapillary point features—think fire hydrants, benches, lane markings, street lights, utility poles, et cetera.
Currently, Mapillary generates point features for 42 object classes. You can explore and filter on these object classes via the Mapillary web app. This article will cover everything you'll need to know about viewing point features.
Accessing point features
By default, Mapillary does not display point features. You'll need to toggle them on to view them.
On the Mapillary web app, click on the 'Map data' icon in the top-left corner. The 'Map data' pane will open. Click the dropdown arrow under 'Show points' to select which points you'd like to view on the map.
To view all point features at once, select 'All points.'
To apply a filter for a specific object class, scroll through the list of points and click on the class you'd like to filter on. You can add as many classes as you'd like to this filter. If you have a specific object class in mind, you can type it into the bar to search for it directly.
Current filters will be shown at the top of the search bar. To remove an object from the filter, click on its name. To clear all point filters, click the 'Reset' button.
You can minimize the 'Map data' menu at any time and your applied filters will remain active.
Even when the menu is minimized, you'll notice the 'Map data' button remains highlighted. This indicates that map features are displayed on the map. If you need to change your current set of filters, just reopen the menu.
Viewing associated imagery
Another key way of interacting with point features on the Mapillary web app is viewing the image detections associated with a given point feature.
When you click on a feature on the map, a set of numbered images will display on the left side of the view.
The corresponding image locations are also numbered on the map. You may need to zoom in to see them.
Clicking on an image thumbnail will open the image in full screen mode. Here, you can view the detection that matches the selected point feature. The detection will flash for a few moments to help you find it.
And that's it! You now have all the tools you'll need to navigate Mapillary point features successfully.
