Traffic signs are supported on Mapillary as map features extracted from image detections. Currently, Mapillary recognizes 1,500 traffic sign classes from 100 different countries. You can explore and filter traffic sign map features via the Mapillary web app.
This article will cover everything you'll need to know about viewing traffic signs on Mapillary.
Accessing traffic signs
By default, Mapillary does not display map features. You'll need to toggle the traffic signs on to view them.
On the Mapillary web app, click on the 'Map data' icon in the top-left corner. The 'Map data' pane will open. Click the dropdown arrow under 'Show traffic signs' to select which traffic signs you'd like to view on the map.
To view all traffic signs at once, select 'All traffic signs.'
To apply a filter for a specific traffic sign, scroll through the list of signs and click on the sign you'd like to filter on. You can add as many classes as you'd like to this filter. If you have a specific sign in mind, you can type it into the bar to search for it directly.
Current filters will be shown at the top of the search bar. To remove a sign from the filter, click on its name. To clear all traffic signs, click the 'Reset' button.
You can minimize the 'Map data' menu at any time and your applied filters will remain active.
Even when the menu is minimized, you'll notice the 'Map data' button remains highlighted. This indicates that map features are displayed on the map. If you need to change your current set of filters, just reopen the menu.
Viewing associated imagery
Another key way of interacting with traffic signs on the Mapillary web app is viewing the image detections associated with a given sign.
When you click on a sign on the map, a set of numbered images will display on the left side of the view.
The corresponding image locations are also numbered on the map. You may need to zoom in to see them. If there are more than three images tied to the sign, you can click on the 'Next' button to see previews for additional images.
Clicking on an image thumbnail will open the image in full screen mode. Here, you can view the detection that matches the selected sign. The detection will flash for a few moments to help you find it.
And that's it! You now have all the tools you'll need to view Mapillary traffic signs on the web app.
